Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.– The Blue Planet Alliance team visited the Dominican Republic as part of a strategic agenda aimed at building the future of energy on the island and strengthening regional climate resilience, in collaboration with GFDD.
Within the framework of this visit, a working meeting was held with GFDD’s Center for Environmental Studies, led by Mr. Ernesto Reyna, along with his team of chemical engineers, public policy analysts, and environmental experts. This collaboration represents a significant step in strengthening the technical and analytical capacities necessary to support the sustainable energy transition in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean.
As part of the agenda, Henk Rogers, CEO and founder of Blue Planet Alliance, presented the organization’s mission, focused on promoting a legislative transition to achieve a 100% renewable energy matrix in the Dominican Republic by 2045. During his remarks, Rogers highlighted the mandate adopted by Hawaii as a reference model, while Kneyone Murray, Director for the Caribbean, emphasized the importance of addressing this challenge from a regional perspective, as a united Caribbean front.

The delegation also held a high-level meeting with GFDD executives, which included a courtesy visit to Dr. Leonel Fernández, founder and president of the institution. In this context, both parties expressed their willingness to move forward with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, with the objective of developing joint actions to help accelerate the transition toward clean energy in the country.
As the closing activity of the visit, Sofía Mejía Cadavid conducted an exclusive interview with Henk Rogers and Kneyone Murray for her children’s program Notichicos, creating an outreach and awareness space aimed at new generations on the importance of climate action and sustainability.
