Santo Domingo.– The United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Leah Francis Campos, paid a visit this Tuesday to former President of the Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández, at the facilities of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), where they held a cordial meeting covering various topics.

During the meeting, Ambassador Campos and Dr. Leonel Fernández exchanged views on the current situation of the Dominican Republic, the strengthening of democracy, security, and other local issues. They also addressed matters related to bilateral relations between the Dominican Republic and the United States, highlighting the importance of dialogue and cooperation as fundamental pillars for development and democratic stability.

Within the framework of the meeting, topics related to culture, education, and strategic thought were also discussed—areas in which GFDD carries out sustained work at both the national and international levels, as part of its commitment to promoting knowledge, critical reflection, and the exchange of ideas.

The visit lasted more than two hours, during which the Ambassador toured GFDD’s facilities and its main academic, cultural, and intellectual production spaces, as well as initiatives related to communication, film, and music, which complement the foundation’s institutional mission.

Ambassador Campos was accompanied by Ms. Nora Brito, Chief of the Political Affairs Unit at the United States Embassy. Representing GFDD were Yarima Sosa, Director of the Center for Future Studies; Danilo Pérez, Assistant to the President; and Omar de la Cruz, Executive Director of the Santo Domingo Global Film Festival.
