Lima, Peru. – The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) was officially invited to participate in the “Women, Forces of Change Symposium 2025,” organized by the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC), with the support of the Government of Canada.
The invitation recognizes GFDD’s leadership in strategic analysis, security and defense, democratic governance, and institutional strengthening—areas the entity promotes under the vision of its president, Dr. Leonel Fernández, who has underscored the need for multidimensional approaches, international cooperation, and the full integration of women into decision-making processes in security matters.
Within this framework, the participation of Dr. Josefina Reynoso Chicón, Director of the Center for Security and Defense Studies (CESEDE), represents a milestone for the Dominican Republic. Reynoso has been distinguished as one of the leaders who embody the force of change in the region, a recognition that adds to her trajectory in security, defense, and the incorporation of a gender perspective in public policy. Her presence strengthens GFDD’s positioning as the Dominican institution leading these issues with a specialized approach and forward-looking vision.
The symposium will bring together women leaders, experts, and public policy decision-makers to discuss the strategic role of women in transforming security systems, disarmament, peacebuilding, and institutional innovation. The agenda includes high-level panels, technical roundtables, and idea labs aimed at promoting proposals that strengthen regional security with a modern and inclusive perspective.
Through its participation in this forum, GFDD reaffirms its commitment to promoting critical thinking, women’s leadership, and international cooperation in security and defense matters, actively contributing to future-oriented agendas for Latin America and the Caribbean.
