Madrid, Spain – The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) celebrated the official inauguration of its new office in Madrid, a key step in its mission to expand its international activities and promote academic, cultural, and scientific collaboration between the Dominican Republic and Europe.
The inaugural event was led by Dr. Leonel Fernández, former President of the Dominican Republic and President of GFDD, and Ynes Vargas, Executive Director of GFDD Spain, who highlighted the significance of this new chapter for the Foundation and the historical ties between both nations.
In his speech, Fernández emphasized the importance of GFDD as a think tank dedicated to topics such as globalization, democracy, and development, noting that the expansion into Spain opens new opportunities to connect with universities, research centers, and high-tech companies.
For her part, Ynes Vargas stated that the opening of this office is “a long-cherished dream that today becomes a reality” and highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to continuing to promote initiatives that positively impact youth, human development, and democratic consolidation. “Today, we open a bridge of cooperation that will strengthen the foundations of a strategic relationship between our nations,” she added.
This new headquarters in Madrid aims to consolidate GFDD’s presence in Europe, facilitating academic, cultural, and intellectual exchange between the Dominican Republic and Spain. Additionally, it is envisioned as a key space for promoting innovative projects that address the global challenges of the 21st century, such as artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, and sustainable development.
The inauguration of GFDD Madrid marks a milestone in the Foundation’s international projection and reaffirms its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and advancing toward a future of greater global collaboration.
