Leonel Fernández promotes agreement between GFDD and The New York City Bar Association to strengthen academic and democratic cooperation and the development of the judicial system

New York.– The former President of the Dominican Republic and President of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Dr. Leonel Fernández, led the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between GFDD and The New York City Bar Association, one of the most influential legal organizations in the United States, with the aim of strengthening academic and institutional cooperation and promoting joint initiatives focused on the development and strengthening of the judicial system.

The agreement was signed together with Muhammad Faridi, President of the New York City Bar Association, and consolidates a strategic alliance aimed at the development of exchange programs, joint academic activities, specialized forums, and research projects that promote critical thinking, advanced legal training, and international dialogue.

This initiative is part of Leonel Fernández’s vision to project the Dominican Republic as an active player in the main spaces of global reflection, through the institutional work of GFDD, fostering the strengthening of the rule of law, institutional modernization, and international cooperation.

Referring to the relevance of the agreement, Leonel Fernández emphasized that cooperation with entities of high international prestige contributes decisively to the strengthening of democratic values and institutional frameworks.

“Cooperation with internationally prestigious institutions such as The New York City Bar Association reinforces our conviction that knowledge, law, and dialogue are essential pillars for democracy, the strengthening of the judicial system, and development,” he stated.

The Memorandum of Understanding provides for the organization of conferences, seminars, and academic meetings, as well as the promotion of joint initiatives in legal research, democratic governance, public policy analysis, and best practices for strengthening justice systems, encouraging the participation of academics, experts, legal professionals, and students from both the United States and the Dominican Republic.

With this initiative, Leonel Fernández reaffirms his commitment to institutional strengthening, the international projection of the country, and the building of cooperation networks that contribute to democratic development, consolidating GFDD as a space for strategic thinking, education, and global dialogue.

The alliance with The New York City Bar Association represents a significant step in consolidating GFDD as a regional benchmark in international cooperation and legal thought, aligned with a vision of development based on legality, democracy, and the exchange of ideas on a global scale.
