With the presence of Dr. Leonel Fernández, former President of the Dominican Republic, the 21st Annual Golf Tournament was recently held with great success to raise funds in benefit of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), an institution chaired by the former president.
The event took place at the Miami Shores Golf Club, with the participation of over 100 players, including former Major League Baseball stars Orlando “El Duque” Hernández and José Rijo. The awards dinner also featured the presence of Geanilda Vázquez, Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Miami.
President Fernández thanked the sponsors and players for their support of the tournament, which this year was held as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), GFDD’s sister organization.
“Your support is essential for carrying out GFDD’s activities, which are mainly focused on the educational and cultural fields,” Fernández added.
Meanwhile, José Záiter, Executive Director of GFDD-Florida, said in his welcome remarks that this year’s tournament paid tribute to Mr. Juan Marichal, Baseball Hall of Famer, who for the first time since the tournament began was unable to attend.
Finally, Ricardo Jacobo, General Coordinator of the event, thanked the organizing team: Soulangel Santana, Deputy Executive Director of GFDD-Florida; Carlos Arias, Tournament Rules Coordinator; and the rest of the volunteer team.
