Leonel Fernández Engages in Academic and Diplomatic Agenda in the U.S. with International Leaders and the Dominican Diaspora

Washington, D.C. – Former President of the Dominican Republic and President of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Leonel Fernández, is currently in the United States carrying out an extensive agenda, meeting with representatives of international organizations, academics, business leaders, and members of the Dominican diaspora.

During his visit, Fernández attended a memorial event alongside the Bosch family in honor of the late León Bosch, son of former Dominican President Juan Bosch.

In Washington, Fernández met with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, to discuss topics related to democracy, electoral competition challenges in Latin America, and the role of international organizations in regional stability.

“I appreciate his always warm reception and the spirit of cooperation that has characterized our relationship over the years,” Fernández stated following the meeting.

As part of his academic agenda, Fernández will meet with Gonzalo Paz, professor at Georgetown University, and Jana Nelson, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Western Hemisphere Affairs, to analyze strategic issues concerning Latin America and the Caribbean.

Additionally, he will hold discussions with Ambassador Sérgio França Danese, representative of Brazil’s Permanent Mission to the UN, on international cooperation and multilateral diplomacy. He will also participate in a policy dialogue with Tulio Vera, CEO of Global Americans, along with Iván Rebolledo and Rudy Fuertes, focusing on regional policies and development strategies.

Fernández’s U.S. visit includes participation in various meetings in his capacity as President of GFDD, reinforcing his commitment to promoting development, international cooperation, and strengthening ties with the Dominican community abroad.

This visit, covering the cities of Washington, New Jersey, New York, and Boston, reaffirms his leadership in academic and diplomatic spheres, strengthening the Dominican community’s presence in high-impact international discussions.
