Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, GFDD , has conducted several joint programs with FIU. President Leonel Fernández signed an agreement of collaboration with FIU April 30, 2003, when the “Strategic Alliance Dominican Republic-Florida” was launched.

Dr. Leonel Fernández, President of the FUNGLODE/GFDD , signed an agreement of cooperation with the University of Miami in October 27, 2000.

DBCC has a wonderful tradition of providing affordable quality education, small classroom sizes and excellent instructional help. The DBCC is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges. In order to solidify and place the continuous collaborations conducted by the DBCC and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, GFDD , an agreement of understanding was signed in January 2003 by President Leonel Fernández and Mr.Kent Sharples, President of DBCC. The last joint program that took place March 29, 2004 in Santo Domingo consisted of a digital media workshop.

Baylor University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the state of Texas and the largest Baptist university in the world. Baylor has grown to more than 14,000 students, and its nationally recognized academic divisions provide baccalaureate degree programs at the undergraduate, masters and doctorate levels. Baylor University also supports the Baylor Institute for Air Science (BIAS) whose mission is to foster stewardship of the environment through research, public service and the education of a new generation of scientist-pilots dedicated to environmental research. BIAS interacts with government and university officials world-wide regarding programs that use biomass fuels in aircraft and air quality monitoring programs using instrumented aircraft. BIAS conducts conferences, seminars and demonstrations on critical issues of air pollution, the development of renewable transportation fuels and the imperatives concerning environmental stewardship. FOCAL: Canadian Foundation for the Americas

Founded in 1990, the Canadian Foundation for the Americas is an independent policy institute, based in Ottawa, that fosters informed analysis and debate on social, political and economic issues facing the Americas. We support a greater understanding of these issues in Canada and throughout the region. In March 2006 FOCAL and GFDD/FUNGLODE signed a 5-year agreement on technical cooperation, diplomatic and international matters, and professional trainings and research projects.

Caribbean Traveling Network Dominicano (CTN)

Caribbean Traveling Network Dominicano (CTN) was funded in 1995 with the mission of transmitting and communicating opinions, analysis and available options related to the tourism industry in the Dominican Republic at a national and international level. Additionally, CTN has been expanding its programming to cover other areas such culture, art, business, commerce, among others. CTN is transmitted through the national channels of Teleuniverso and channel 29. CTN has signed different collaborating agreements with international broadcasting institutions such as Discovery Channel, ESPN and Color Visión, among others.

The Council of the Americas is the leading U.S. business organization dedicated to promoting regional economic integration, free trade, open markets and investment, and the rule of law throughout the diverse regions within the Western Hemisphere. Global Foundation follows up closely its valuable work, and participates regularly in its discussion forums and conferences. The XXXIV Annual Conference took place at the State Department on May 3 and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development was represented by its Executive Director, Ms. Natasha Despotovich.

Counterpart International and FUNGLODE/GFDD signed a Memorandum of Understanding in January 2005 to work in the Dominican Republic with their program, Coral Gardens, to contribute to a sustainable development.

As part of the ongoing process of modernization of the Organization of American States, the Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development (IACD) was established at the beginning of 2000 to promote new and more effective forms of cooperation between its member states and to enhance partnerships with the private sector and civil society. The IACD’s mission is to tap the considerable capabilities of the member and observer states of the Organization of American States (OAS) and forge new private/public-sector partnerships to help the people of the Americas overcome poverty, benefit from the digital revolution and advance their economic and social development. The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development has an agreement of cooperation with the IACD and both institutions have partnered in several programs related to information and education technology.

The Inter-American Dialogue is the premier center for policy analysis, exchange, and communication on issues in Western Hemisphere affairs. The Dialogue engages public and private leaders from across the Americas in efforts to develop and mobilize support for cooperative responses to key hemispheric problems and opportunities. By invitation from Mr. Peter Hakim, President of the Inter-American Dialogue, Dr. Leonel Fernández was elected as member in February 2, 2001. The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development has collaborated with this think tank in several occasions.

Since its founding as part of Georgetown University in 1955, the ILI has provided training and technical assistance to find practical solutions to the legal, economic and financial problems of developing countries training over 12,000 officials, managers, and professionals from more than 180 countries since its first seminar in 1971. Since 1983, ILI has been an independent, non-profit educational institution serving an international constituency of government officials, legal and business professionals and scholars from its headquarters in Washington, D.C. ILI’s mission is to raise levels of professional competence and capacity in all nations so that professionals everywhere may achieve practical solutions to common problems in ways that suit their nations’ own needs. In March 2004, President Leonel Fernández, on behalf of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development signed and agreement with the ILI to collaborate in projects related to finance, public a dministration, law and governance.

The Organization of American States (OAS) brings together the countries of the Western Hemisphere to strengthen cooperation and advance common interests. It is the region’s premier forum for multilateral dialogue and concerted action. At the core of the OAS mission is an unequivocal commitment to democracy, as expressed in the Inter-American Democratic Charter : “The peoples of the Americas have a right to democracy and their governments have an obligation to promote and defend it.” Building on this foundation, the OAS works to promote good governance, strengthen human rights, foster peace and security , expand trade, and address the complex problems caused by poverty, drugs and corruption . Through decisions made by its political bodies and programs carried out by its General Secretariat, the OAS promotes greater inter-American cooperation and understanding. FUNGLODE/GFDD has an agreement of cooperation with OAS to strengthen education with the use of information technology.

The Center has developed its programs in the Dominican Republic for several years. FUNGLODE recognized this collaboration with the Center by hosting its Director, Dr. Richard A. Nuccio, in Santo Domingo along with their local partners, PUCMYM.

The City University of New York (CUNY)

The City University of New York (CUNY) originated in 1847 with the foundation of the Free Academy, which later became The City College, the first College at CUNY. According to the Education Law of the State of New York, CUNY is “a free institution of higher education independent and integrated, and assumes that the university will maintain and expand its commitment to academic excellence.” CUNY has 11 senior colleges, 6 community colleges, a graduate school, a Law School and the “Sophie Davies” School of Biomedical Education. It has a population of 450,000 students. President Leonel Fernández, President of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, GFDD, signed an agreement with CUNY to conduct educational and research exchanges. Prior to this agreement, both institutions have collaborated in several research programs.

The Foundation for New Inter-American Journalism (FNPI)

The Foundation for New Inter-American Journalism (Fundación para un Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano, FNPI) was created in 1994 under the leadership of Colombian journalist and writer Gabriel García Márquez, literature Nobel laureate, 1982 inspired by his wish to share experiences and encourage young journalists, as well as his persuation that the most effective way of learning is in applied and participatory workshops, where seasoned professors can share the tools of the trade with the students. FUNGLOD and Global Foundation for Democracy and Development signed an agreement of cooperation with FNPI on February 24, 2005.

The UN Association of the Dominican Republic (ANURD)

The UN Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR) is a non governmental NGO whose mandate is to strengthen the participation of the Dominican people in the UN system. The activities coordinated by UNA-DR target equally the private and the public sector. The program with the biggest impact is the “Model UN” conferences. These conferences consist of interactive simulations of the commissions, committees, agencies and other programs of the UN a well as other regional and international institutions. The students who participate in the simulation act as representatives from the Member States of the particular organization and defend the position of the ambassadors of those countries, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. UNA-DR is part of the World Federation of UN Associations (WFUNA) and its offices are in Santo Domingo and in New York.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) aims at the development-friendly integration of developing countries into the world economy. FUNGLODE’s association with this organization will bring about a chance to discuss trade development issues and share the Dominican experience with other participants at UNCTAD’s forum for intergovernmental discussions and deliberations in Geneva. NGOs with Consultative Status have the privilege to be the only institutions in civil society to address the Governments in the Institution.

Located in a traditional New England college town, The University of Rhode Island (URI) continues to serve as the most prominent public research university in the U.S. state of Rhode Island since its charter as the state’s agricultural school in 1888. It enjoys a very active student body with over a hundred officially recognized student organizations, such as URI Students for Social Change and many local branches of national organizations. URI also manages the Student Affairs Diversity Fund, which seeks “to increase the multicultural competence of the URI campus community by infusing diversity, equity, and inclusiveness into University programs, policies, and practices.” In September 2011, URI was a generous host to the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development photo exhibit and promotional event featuring the release of New Perspectives: the Dominican Republic at its Providence campus.

University of Turabo

The University of Turabo wants to provide students with an ample academic base that will facilitate the development of their capabilities to improve their lives and those of the community and the Puerto Rican society at large. With an ever-growing number of Master programs in different aspects of education, business administration, engineering, the University of Turabo wants to train students to understand the challenges of contemporary Puerto Rico and to provide them with the necessary tools to bring about change and improvement. Universidad of Turabo signed a collaborative agreement with FUNGLODE/GFDD and Université Quisqueya of Haiti to establish the International Center for Environmental and Sustainable Development Studies, ICESDeS, in September 2004.
