DOMINICAN CINEMA SURE TO DAZZLE AT THE UPCOMING MIAMI FILM FESTIVAL

Miami, FL – The Miami Film Festival, one of the most important events in the film industry, will be held from April 3 -13, 2025. 

This year, Dominican cinema will be showcased with what promises to be two outstanding films. They are:  “La 42”, directed by José Maria Cabral, and “Olivia y las nubes”, directed by Tomás Pichardo Espaillat.

Both highly anticipated screenings will be shown on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

  •      “Olivia y las nubes” – 12:00 p.m. (Noon) – Silverspot Cinema – 300 SE 3rd Street #100, Miami, FL 33131.
  • “La 42” – 8:15 p.m. – MDC’s Koubek Center – 2705 SW 3rd Street, Miami, FL 33135.

The Miami Film Festival is internationally renowned for highlighting independent and commercial films and in the process serves as a platform for emerging talents as well as established filmmakers. 

“La 42”, explores a profound and socially relevant theme, while “Olivia y las nubes”, will transports the audience into a world of imagination and reflection. Both productions exemplify the vibrancy and diversity of Dominican cinema, thereby solidifying its presence in the global film scene. 

In an effort to further promote the Dominican film industry abroad, as well as support the MFF, Dr. Leonel Fernández, former president of the Dominican Republic and president of Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) and its sister organization in the US – Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD),  will attend the opening ceremonies of the MFF. Funglode is the sponsor of Festival Global de Cine Dominicano (Global Festival of Dominican Cinema), considered the most important film festival in the Caribbean. In addition, José J. Zaiter, Executive Director of GFDD-Florida will speak at the screening of “La 42”.
